Silverheights is a wonderful neighbourhood and families keep moving in.  As always, we have had many new registrations as students moved into the neighbourhood over the summer.  This was particularly true of Kindergarten students and as I told you even before school started that we would likely have to reorganize classes due to the large number of Kindergarten students.   The Ministry and WRDSB require us to keep a class cap of 30 and ideally 26 students in all FDK classes.  We had over 155 JK/SK students registered and so it was no surprise that we were given an extra Kindergarten class.  With the creation of the new class we can bring all class sizes down considerably.    While reorganization in the fall is not ideal, having smaller Kindergarten classes is good for all.

The new class has been on hold until a teacher was found in the posting process for this new permanent contract job.  We have hired, Julie Shantz, a teacher coming to us from Baden Public School.   While we were waiting for the new teacher to be hired, all of our  JK/SK teachers helped to create the new JK/SK class.  They looked at the strengths and needs of students and made a nicely balanced class.

The new K6 class will begin on Tuesday, October, 15th in the biggest of the existing Kindergarten rooms, in the primary wing of the school.   Parents will be receive a letter being sent home on Wednesday October 9th if their child has been selected to move to K6.

The DECE in the new K6 is Alyssa Bruce.  She is an experienced DECE who has been working at Silverheights in the Extended Day program until now but will be moving to work with Mrs. Shantz in K6.  They are both looking forward to a great partnership in the new classroom.

Jennifer Ford is a new DECE coming into the morning position of the Extended Day program in K2.  She is very excited about coming to Silverheights.

We are happy to have the new class in place for next Tuesday.
