Dear Silverheights Families:
In November, Silverheights Public School was selected as one of four schools in the Waterloo Region to participate in a “School Travel Plan” initiative. The planning group is made up of representatives from the City of Cambridge Planning Department, the Waterloo Region District School Board Planning Department and an organization called Sustainability Waterloo. Parent volunteers, students and Silverheights staff are also represented on this team. The project will identify and help to solve school community transportation issues and safety concerns that effect students as they travel to and from school each day. We are very excited about this opportunity as we are very aware of the traffic and safety issues faced by our students each day.
Last week the School Planning Team walked the neighbourhood as the school day began to identify challenges facing our school community. The participants were able to photograph several concerns and offered potential solutions. In January, our students will attend an assembly to learn more about traffic safety and parents will be given a survey to complete. More information will be shared in the New Year.
