The following is background information on the Shoe Drive that we are supporting by collecting shoes from now until May 12th.
Thank you so much for your interest in The Clothing Drive.
We’re a GTA grassroots 100% volunteer-driven initiative that
sprang up in November 2015 in response to the Syrian
humanitarian crisis.
That concern culminated in an actual store last December at 1682
Victoria Park Avenue in Scarborough. Here Syrian newcomers,
both government-assisted and privately sponsored, can literally
“shop for free” for gently used clothing and footwear. Our
shoppers are encouraged to take as much as they need.
Since then, we’ve received over 3000 visits from Syrian
newcomers. Many who shopped in the winter months are now
returning for spring and summer clothing and shoes.
We would be nothing without our small army of dedicated
volunteers, many of whom speak Arabic. Thanks to them, the
store is open, 10am-6pm, seven days a week. We accept
appointments Tuesday through Sunday.
We continue to rely on the overwhelming generosity of people in
the GTA for our inventory. It’s impossible to put a figure on the
countless thousands of bags of good quality used clothing and
shoes they’ve donated and continue to donate.
