On May 6th, Ben Fanelli (Captain of the Kitchener Rangers) spoke with our grade 5 to 8 students. Five years ago, when Ben was a grade 11 student at Eastwood Collegiate in his rookie year with the Kitchener Rangers, he sustained a nasty check from behind that left him in a coma for 7 days, fighting for his life. Ben’s family and friends had no idea if he would live, let alone play hockey again. That is where Ben’s unbelievable story of resilience began. He shared his insights on overcoming obstacles, showing respect, and setting goals. He also spoke about his involvement with his Head Strong: Fanelli 4 Brain Injury Awareness campaign (http://m.kitchenerrangers.com/page/head-strong). Following the presentation, Ben spent time meeting the kids and signing autographs. Thanks for the visit, Ben!
